Masterclass in track-driving artistry with Mark Hales and Don Palmer.
A two-day intensive course using the teaching skills of two of the most experienced driving coaches in the world.
Mark Hales has joined forces with the highly respected coach and car control expert Don Palmer to create a unique learning experience. With your help, Hales and Palmer dissect the driving experience then allow you to reassemble it in a way that only you need understand.
It is not a quick fix, but it is the best route to greater understanding.
The venue we use most often is the picturesque Anglesey Circuit in North Wales where we will help you develop your track driving skills to a very high level.
At Anglesey, we will build upon the basic ingredients, which are:
Understanding of the track
Car control skills
The ability to manage one’s internal state.
Course Aims
The ultimate goal of this course is for you to enjoy more of your car’s capability while on the track. You will gain greater control via a better understanding of the interaction between car and circuit. We will at the same time teach you to pick and optimise your lines.
We help you develop your technique and minimise your mistakes by honing your mental approach.
Course Structure and Content
The idea is not just to learn the best way along a truly beautiful piece of road but to develop a process which can be applied to any circuit in the world. Think of it as a set of analytical tools which you will assemble and take home with you.
You will at the same time develop strategies that enable you to measure your success as you go along. These include:
The fundamental importance of an optimum line.
Recognising and achieving that optimum line.
The simple phases of cornering.
The factors which affect all the above, like camber and surface.
Recognition of situations that can cause you problems.
Learn how to avoid or deal with them.
Understanding how the vehicle translates your control input. Making it do what you want.
Basic vehicle dynamics (oversteer and understeer.)
Elements of handling at the limit.
Understanding the language of tyres.
The concept of mechanical grip.
Understanding steering at the limit.
The importance of dynamic weight distribution.
Subtlety with the controls.
Why smoothly does it is the secret.
Heel & toe gear changing.
Effective braking.
And finally… managing your internal mental state. The essential ability that helps you minimize mistakes.
Anglesey Circuit
We are very happy to be involved with the Anglesey Performance Driving Centre which oversees all instruction at Anglesey. It is essential that we have exclusive access to the track in order to focus on the tasks in hand rather than worrying about other cars and the speed differential which is always a problem at a busy track day. Anglesey and its Performance Driving Centre allows us that freedom.
Situated on the picturesque southern coast of the Welsh island the track has recently been extended and redesigned to make one of the most challenging and interesting tracks in Europe, together with the safety that is necessary for FIA approvals. It also offers a stunning backdrop; on one side lies the Irish sea. On the other is the sometime snow-capped mountain of Snowdon. Nearby are the sandy beaches which have been a holiday destination for the well to do for more than a century. The picturesque town of Beaumaris and its selection of top class restaurants is just a few miles away in the straits of Menai.
Anglesey is a fair distance from London, but it’s an easy run up the M6, then you turn left along the A55. It’s a drive well worth the effort. We – and you - have a unique working environment all to ourselves.
Time well spent, Power is nothing without control.
The two day course costs £1995 (plus VAT). For more details, Please call Dave or Phil on 01954-202-588 / 07946-610193
